I allowed you to raid my heart
pilfer and ravage what
remained of my soul.
Until all was left
was barren wasteland …
trampled by unknown demons and
arid like the Nile before
the precious flood.

Yet I survived you Mirabai…

I breathe the air bestowed upon me
by the one gift you could
never take from me…
my immortal passion of you,
which, like the wind can never
be spirited away …
and will forever linger in all four corners
of my unbridled desire for
another taste of you.
Disclaimer:  This poem was inspired by the
readings from the book
"Sweet On My Lips:  The Love Poems of
Mirabai" Translated by  Louise Landes Levi

This poem is written from the POV of Mirabai's
female servant.
